Walking 700 m from the Green Park Metro Station Exit at Balbir Saxena Marg, onto Sq. Leader Mohinder Kumar Jain Marg , just adjacent to Fr. Agnel School Gautam Nagar , we come across a man standing beside a make shift caravan stall decorated with bright florescent colourful lights , literally straight out from a 80s ad campaign. The stretch from the metro station doesn’t have much street lights thus pulling everyone towards the stall. The make-shift stall is pulled by a relatively fragile looking bike engine & it’s quite fascinating to see what a little bike can actually carry around.
The man behind the wheels or should I say axle, is as interesting as his ROZI-ROTI ( bread-n-butter ) . Meet Prem Singh of PREM ICE CREAM RABDI FALUDA . A very lively & simple person, who doesn’t mind giving you a treat for free, if you leave unhappy from his stall . On his menu, which is spread all over his shop board, you can get some really good stuff to satisfy that sweet little tooth of yours . A delight for all those who just can’t get enough of mouth watering Indian sweets .
To start with, the little cup of fresh Rabdi, feels like heaven, the moment you indulge it with your taste buds. The Rabdi is supposed to be bit heavy , but believe me once started , the only time your hands would stop , is when you are done with last tiniest bit of it . Over to the main guy, the BIG SHOT , the crowd favourite , ICE-CREAM FALUDA. Yes, you have read it right , not KulFi Faluda , not Rabdi Faluda , but yes indeed its ICE-CREAM FALUDA . The ingredients are pretty simple, but they are fun to watch when being prepared together . Prem, very delicately takes out some fresh wet Faluda from one of his containers , which by the way remains icy chilled by running on Amaron Car Batteries ( JAI HO INDIA ) . With the glass half filled with Faluda, a good dose of Rabdi goes into it , which is followed by hard blending with a spoon for about 30 seconds . Next , two small scoops of vanilla Ice-Cream gets toppled on the Rabdi-Faluda base. I guess the ice cream scoops are from the standard Bricks of Mother Diary. With the scoops semi merged into the glass, Prem takes out his bottle of RuhAfza & with artistic precision , covers up the glass top with the beautiful rose syrup .
The stall has been here for about 15 years now as per Prem & going by his daily rush, it’s a huge hit among the locals. Of-course having, young college crowd from the nearby NIFT , Gargi & Kamla Nehru Colleges does help in the making the business more popular.
Do make it a point, to visit this famous Stall in the evenings after 6 & who knows, you might as well get a delicious reason to actually enjoy these Delhi summers.
